Upper Hunza

Gojal & Khunjerab

Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones and the road to the Chinese border

Autumn trees beside a stone wall in Ghulkin village, Gojal

Upper Hunza runs from Attabad Lake through Passu and Gulmit to Khunjerab Pass on the border with China.

What to see

Attabad Lake was created by a landslide in 2010 and now sits on the Karakoram Highway. Further on, the Passu Cones rise above the village, and the Passu suspension bridge is a favourite short walk.

Khunjerab Pass

The pass, at 4,693 metres, is the highest paved border crossing in the world. It is open to visitors only in the warmer months, and the dates depend on the border authorities, so we confirm them before planning a trip.

Highlights

  • Attabad Lake
  • The Passu Cones and Passu suspension bridge
